Agaro

Agaro is a Fawn explorer known across the land as the "Annihilation Blade". A tall, muscular man of twenty-seven with red hair, jade-green eyes, black horns, perpetual stubble and a black metal eyepatch over his right eye, he is almost never seen without a bottle of drink in hand. He earned his elite rank as a Dragon Slayer, having descended alone to the depths of a dungeon far to the north and slain the dragon Dungeon Lord that lurked there. Originally a Class II explorer, he is later promoted to Class I. He is the younger brother of the veteran antique-shop owner and Class III adventurer Arifa, whom he fears above all others, and was trained by his aunt and master, the Class I explorer Dorarov Flametongue, the "Dragon-Eyed Heroine."

He first crosses paths with the protagonist Wof at a riverbank, where the boy is fishing in a fruitless attempt to find a hobby. Passing himself off as a harmless drunk, Agaro teaches Wof how to bait a hook and read a bite, then treats him to a mountain of meat at the Cidre Inn tavern. His generosity stems from a poor, hungry childhood: seeing hired children and struggling kids reminds him of his own past, and he insists Wof eat his fill. When a swarm of Mimics and Puppet Boxes erupts in the dungeon's Junkyard, Agaro arrives to cut a path to safety, entrusting Wof with a rescued little girl while he single-handedly annihilates the monster horde, cracking one of his horns in the fight.

Agaro fights with Flame Tongue, a broad saber that is in truth a monster's tongue reforged into an Oreparts adapted to his Relic. On his command the blade glows red, smokes, and can extend, swell, and blaze with annihilating fire; the weapon is sentient, has a will of its own, and even shares his love of alcohol. His Relic (Annihilation) lets him erase what its flames touch, complemented by the fire Relic. His signature techniques include the twin-bladed Flame Tongue Double Standard Mode and the explosive prayer-bead annihilation strike. He is also famed as a drinker, banned from many taverns, and holds a losing streak against the "Black Gulp" Megadia, who out-drank him eighty cups to sixty-seven.

Boisterous, blunt and outrageous, Agaro is nonetheless a dependable big-brother figure with a genuine sense of responsibility, extremely popular with women, and quietly respected by fellow explorers — his disciple and drinking friend Sweed gave up on his own dream of Class I after witnessing Agaro's strength. In the later chapters he returns to lead an ad-hoc expedition brigade and fights alongside allies such as Riv, Lupinus and Wof against powerful foes, still trading drinking bouts with his rivals between battles.
