Sophia

Sophia is Belinda's younger sister, introduced to Leylin (Nik) as a sweet and shy young girl of about fifteen or sixteen. At their first meeting, she gave a slight curtsy, timidly gathering the hem of her dress, and addressed Leylin as "Mr. Nik." Despite her shyness, Sophia grew genuinely attached to Leylin, calling him "brother" and obeying his instructions without objection: when he set off to find her elder sister, the young girl meekly agreed to hide in a safe place should any danger arise. Sophia feels deep affection for her loved ones; when she was finally reunited with Belinda, she threw herself weeping upon her chest and confessed that she and Nik had been very worried about her. Sophia's character brings to the narrative a warm family thread that contrasts with the protagonist's harsher adventures.
