"This is the
Lilianne introduced him to Leilin, a hint of surprise in her eyes. "That was only a probing attack, but the way he blocked it so effortlessly — this
"Enough! Since everyone's here, let's get started!"
Meilisite urged them on, a trace of fervor in his voice, carrying an intense longing that caught Leilin slightly off guard.
Now he had a much sharper sense and grasp of this kind of emotional force. Whatever could stir even this ancient wizard to excitement, combined with the situation in the North, it was clear their ambitions were far from small.
"The reason we've all gathered here is, of course, for that eternal divine seat..."
Lilianne said softly, a note of longing in her voice too.
Legends like them — even necromancers — if they didn't transform into undead beings like liches, would live at most a few thousand years. An enormous gulf separated them from the eternal, awe-inspiring might of the gods.
And for these Legends, in terms of effort, talent, or sacrifice, they didn't consider themselves the slightest bit inferior to the gods. Their only shortcoming was that they'd been born too late — the opportunity had already passed them by.
Under these circumstances, watching the gods sit high above, imperishable and eternal — how could the Legends possibly accept that willingly?
Nearly every Legend harbored the ambition of ascension in their hearts!
On the surface, the Continental Legendary Pact and other temples or organized forces kept them in check, but private gatherings like this were impossible to prevent.
After all, the current divine domains and divine seats were nearly saturated. To successfully ascend, they would have to drag down one or even several gods!
Even if a large number of Legends banded together, the best they could do was gang up on a god's incarnation. A god's true body within their divine realm was virtually invincible.
Therefore, they had to wait for the chance of a divine war! Only when the gods began attacking each other would these Legends have their sole opportunity to obtain divinity — or even godhead and divine domains!
And now, these Legends had seen the same possibility and gathered together.
"The situation in the North... I trust everyone is well aware of it. The
A hint of fanaticism and enormous gambling spirit showed on Lilianne's face. "The Weave Goddess and the God of Justice are both Greater Powers, while the Orcish Pantheon has only
Now Leilin finally understood why these powerful Legends had gathered here — they were betting on the gods to exhaust each other, then swooping in to seize divinity and even godhead for themselves.
However, even the weakest true god possessed power beyond what any Legend could match. The difficulty of this plan was no less than trying to pull chestnuts out of a fire.
Still, this aligned perfectly with Leilin's own goals.
So a slight smile tugged at the corner of his lips. "A fine decision... then let me ask — have you each identified your targets?"
"The three Greater Powers are obviously beyond what we can covet at present, and Wizard Meilisite is only interested in divinity and divine domains related to death. This time, he's only after the divine power accumulated by those gods' incarnations and any divine artifacts that might appear..."
Lilianne gave a brief introduction, then looked at Leilin. "And what about you, Lord Leilin? Do you have a target in mind?"
"Me?"
Leilin rubbed his nose. "For someone at my current level, I can't really ask for too much. I'll go along with your previous decision — I only need a sliver of a true god's divinity..."
Meilisite gave Leilin a deep look. "For an ordinary Legend, that is indeed a sensible choice..."
For an ordinary Legend seeking godhood, the first step was to accumulate followers and faith, then attempt to comprehend some form of Law Power, combining it with faith to form divinity.
And this step was the most difficult of all!
Even in the Wizard World, those Morning Star Wizards couldn't breach the gate of Law Power. Only after advancing to the sixth rank as Dawn Sun Wizards, once their souls had fully ascended to Yang, could they attempt such comprehension.
In the
However, obtaining even a sliver of divinity through plunder could completely solve this problem, vaulting them straight into the threshold of Law Power. For all Legends, this was an enormous attraction.
"Then... which god have you set your sights on?"
Lilianne asked.
"Mara..." Leilin named the unfortunate deity — one of the gods that had been mentioned during their earlier deliberations.
"Good! That fits our original plan and doesn't conflict. Once I return, I can use my influence to get you included in the operation to besiege Mara's incarnation. Of course, you'll need to formally request this yourself..."
Lilianne nodded.
In her earlier planning, Mara the God of the Hunt had been a strong candidate.
For several reasons. First, Mara was merely a Lesser Power — the weakest in strength, and this was the most crucial factor. If it had been an incarnation of a Greater Power, these Legends wouldn't have much confidence in taking it down.
Second, Mara wasn't actually part of the Orcish Pantheon — merely a loose ally, without much backup behind it.
And the third point — the most important of all — was that Mara was an evil god! Eliminating it carried no risk to one's reputation; they might even earn a name for justice and righteousness.
Furthermore, Mara's faith was extremely narrow — apart from the Beastkin, only some intelligent beasts followed the god, meaning the forces it could muster weren't particularly strong.
With so many factors working against it, Mara's tragic fate was entirely predictable.
As for Leilin, he'd had his eye on Mara's divine power for quite some time.
With his current strength, the size of his following, and his comprehension of the Devouring Law, condensing a sliver of
Unfortunately, both forms of divinity were far too obvious — one glance and they'd easily be connected to
The moment that being fell into slumber, Leilin suddenly emerged — how could that fail to draw suspicions from other gods? Never take the gods for fools. They were actually extraordinarily clever; they were merely sometimes swayed by the emotions embedded in their divine domains.
"Beelzebub, along with the other Archdukes of Hell, are all targets I'll hunt down eventually — but not now..."
Leilin stroked his chin, mulling things over.
Beyond this option, his other paths were extremely narrow, since they also had to align with the Eighth-Rank Wizard path he'd chosen for himself.
"My path must encompass the power of emotions and the evil of all beings, forged upon the foundation of dream power, ultimately bearing the Laws of
"On this basis, the only ones compatible with the original power of devils are Slaughter and Death..."
"The temptation of devils inevitably brings slaughter and death, and once these merge, they become the most fundamental of Original Sins!"
With his goals constrained, Leilin's current options were extremely limited — only Slaughter and Death were viable directions.
Both divine domains were immensely powerful, and the gods who held them were not to be trifled with.
Death was controlled by
If he wanted to target the divinity of these two, Leilin figured he'd be better off just heading straight to Hell instead.
Apart from them, only Mara's divine domain of the Hunt could barely be considered connected to the Law of Slaughter.
If a complete divine domain represented 100% comprehension of a Law, then divinity accounted for at most around 10%. For the domain of the Hunt, it would necessarily encompass Laws such as Tracking and Slaughter — roughly 80% relevance — along with various other miscellaneous Laws.
On this basis, even powerful gods of Intermediate rank or above could easily extract divinity related to Slaughter and Tracking from their incarnations.
Though Leilin's current power level was still somewhat lacking, he was already a Law Wizard in existence. Separating and converting the divinity he needed wouldn't be too troublesome.
"If I had to condense a sliver of Slaughter divinity on my own, even with my followers' prayers assisting, it would still take me ten years at my current level..."
Leilin murmured thoughtfully.
Ten years just to obtain divinity — let alone igniting the Divine Fire, then seeking a divine domain and advancing to true godhood.
Though this speed still fell into the jaw-dropping category, Leilin was not satisfied.
Ever since his last encounter with the Twisted Shadow, a sense of urgency had lingered in his heart.
Since the other party was now seeking resurrection and its will had survived for tens of thousands of years, it certainly had more than just the forbidden arcane arts in Leilin's possession as its only hidden card — there were bound to be other pieces on the board.
If Leilin delayed too long in making his move, the other party would surely play its remaining cards.
The Twisted Shadow was an ancient Eighth-Rank wizard at the absolute peak! Compared to that existence, Leilin was far too insignificant and always on the back foot.
That was why this trip to the North was something he had to undertake — and he absolutely had to obtain a sliver of Slaughter divinity!
With divinity in hand, a Legend's sensitivity toward their followers would become far sharper, and the speed at which they accumulated faith and divine power would accelerate dramatically.
"From divinity bearer... to demigod who has ignited the Divine Fire... then seeking a divine domain, ascending to true godhood!"
The advancement system of the World of Gods had now become completely clear in Leilin's eyes.
