Old Witch/Devil

The Old Witch, also called the Old Devil, is a reclusive dark Magus renowned for her mastery of spirits, curses and soul-related potions. Fierce, calculating and utterly pragmatic, she commands both respect and fear among the dark Magi, yet she is fiercely protective of her granddaughter Jaye, who lost her physical body after a failed experiment.
She becomes a trading partner of Leylin, and after helping him enter the dark-magi group known as the Thousand Meddling Hands, she asks his aid to reach a secret plane she has discovered in a village on the outskirts of Teljose. Inside, she finds a Spirit Altar and awakens the dormant Gargamel, a Spirit God — then tries to trade Leylin's life to obtain a new physical body for Jaye.
Leylin escapes the secret plane and destroys its entrance to keep Gargamel from crossing into the real world, though it is later suggested that the Spirit God, with power comparable to a rank-2 Magus, may yet break free. The Old Witch herself is ultimately overwhelmed by Gargamel's invading spirit.
