Necropolis of the Gods

Description

The Necropolis of the Gods is both an alternate name for the Yulan Plane in the higher planes and, more concretely, a set of hidden, perilous dimensions connected to the Yulan continent that store Divine Artifacts, Divine Sparks, and the corpses of deities. There are actually three Necropolises, with entrances in the North Sea, the Forest of Darkness, and the Southern Sea; the Southern Sea one is the most dangerous.

Each Necropolis opens only once every thousand years, and only those granted acknowledgment may enter — but once inside, an explorer must survive ten full years before portals appear to let them leave. Each is an eighteen-layer cube; the top ten floors hold no divine sparks, but from the eleventh floor down lie the bodies of Deities and the sparks they left behind. Only the ancient Beirut can open the entrances.

The Necropolis is pivotal to Linley's rise: clearing the eleventh floor of the Southern Sea Necropolis alone, he claims three Divine Sparks and a wealth of artifacts. The deepest, eighteenth floor of the Southern Sea Necropolis guards the remains of the four Divine Beast Sovereigns — the Azure Dragon, Vermilion Bird, White Tiger, and Black Tortoise.
