Descrição

Cheongwol is a second-generation disciple of the Emei Sect whom the whole world extols as the «Thousand-Year Flower»: a beauty that blooms once in a millennium and the hope of the righteous sects. Behind the flawless, chaste mask hides a person worn down by loneliness and an inner demon that whispers a craving to kill.

In the original «Bloody Path» she is fated to yield to the demon, betray the sect and become one of the Demonic Cult's Seven Heavens — the «Life-Chasing Ghost». But meeting Han Seojin changes everything: in his cellar she receives, for the first time, the one thing she craved all her life — a simple «good girl». Proving to be a natural masochist, she finds in his games release from the unbearable weight of expectation, and clings to him to the point of obsession, veering off her foretold path of ruin.

Appearance

Cheongwol is a dazzling beauty called the foremost of the Central Plains: long firm legs, a slender supple waist, smooth black hair to her chest, and proud yet somehow sorrowful eyes. Her skin is snow-white and flawless, and her bust, despite her holy vows, is full.

She wears the white robe of the Emei Sect with its embroidered mark at the breast, and on her forearm blazes a red lotus — the Seal of the Virgin Palace, mark of her vow of chastity. Later she never removes the collar Han Seojin gave her, passing it off as a necklace, and out of a wish to please him she takes to wearing powder for the first time in her life.

Personality

In public Cheongwol is the very image of lofty serenity, chastity and mercy, but this is a mask. Within she is proud, prickly and catastrophically lonely, unable to connect with people: from childhood she grew hard in silence and endurance, never learning either to joke or to make peace.

Her inner demon is deeply buried rage that grows with every kill. Beside Han Seojin she drops the mask and becomes her true self — younger, more childlike, more alive; proving a natural masochist, she finds shameful relief in humiliation and the praise that follows it. Her attachment to him swiftly curdles into possessive, yandere obsession: she plants a secret «scent of fidelity» on him so she can always find him, and is ready to take revenge on the whole world and follow him should he die.

History

Cheongwol's true name is Chaeha, which means «beautiful sunset glow». As a child, Green Forest bandits slaughtered her parents beneath a blood-red sky, and she too would have died had not the Head of the Emei Sect, Muwol Sathae, appeared and cut down the killers with a single sword. She took the girl in, gave her a dharma name — «Chaeha sets, Cheongwol rises» — and became a mother to her in place of the one she lost.

So that the Head would be proud of her, Chaeha renounced her old name, meat and every pleasure, took up the sword and became the perfect successor. But the higher the expectations rose and the colder her teacher's praise grew, the more her inner demon ripened, driving her toward rebellion and her first killings.

Story

One night on the mountain Cheongwol finds Han Seojin standing over the bodies of bandits; to survive, he passes his cellar off as «a place for taming inner demons». Despairing of controlling herself, she comes to him of her own accord — and his games, alternating shame with the long-awaited «good girl», bring her peace for the first time; her swordwork straightens out, and the Head marvels at the change.

She grows ever more attached: she chases him to Chengdu disguised as a courtesan; she rejects recruitment by Yeongcheon and the Demonic Cult; she is jealous of Tang Soran. The pivotal turn is that she refuses to kill and promises him to stop, thereby leaving the path to the Seven Heavens. On Mount Sun she breaks through to Peak level, reveals her true name Chaeha to him, and swears to be his.

When Dugu Chinmuk buries Han Seojin alive, Cheongwol blames herself and will not leave his side. In the finale she joins the Hidden Dragon Society, reins in her bloodlust for the sake of her word to him, and crosses ever bolder into forbidden intimacies, fearing only one thing — that she might become unwanted.

Abilities

Cheongwol is a genius the like of which the sect has never seen: at a young age she reached first rank and then Peak level. She wields the righteous Shaoyang Sword Technique, but the one that truly «fits» her is the forbidden Annihilating Sword — the merciless art by which she will make her name among the Seven Heavens.

Her special gift is an exquisite sense for others' qi: she detects and conceals presence, which makes her a flawless hunter and underlies the epithet «Life-Chasing Ghost». She can fight blind, open meridians and channel the purest Emei yin energy, and her strikes pierce a body «like a block of tofu».
