Liu Yan begins as a firebird Artifact Spirit. Over time she learns to transform into a beautiful young woman, and later gains a true body as an adorable, jade-carved child of seven or eight, a cute and harmless appearance that belies terrifying power.
Beneath a projected indifference, Liu Yan hides a mischievous and playful nature. As an Artifact Spirit she cannot grow by absorbing World Energy and must instead swallow Fire Attribute treasures; this changes once she obtains a Spirit-Grade Puppet Body and can finally cultivate.
The firebird slumbered for over ten thousand years in the Flowing Flame Sand Field until Yang Kai stumbled upon it. After a fierce struggle he subdues it with a Soul Brand, and from then on it follows him. After gaining the Source of a Fire Phoenix and strengthening her bloodline in Ancestral Land, Liu Yan develops power comparable to the High Rank Open Heaven Realm.
