Newnelly is a fortress city serving as the base of House Quordenze. It is ringed by a triple wall and from above would look like three irregular ovals nested like a tree's growth rings. The outer wall shuts the city off from the wilds and guards against magical beasts and large animals; the middle one protects the suburbs from raids by barbarians, bandits, and foreign troops; the inner separates the ruling family's residence. At the very center stands Newnelly Castle.
The region where Newnelly lies is prone to drought, so even commoners bathe infrequently. In a country mansion beyond the middle wall Wilk receives the slave trader and buys the elf Eve — neither trader nor slaves are admitted into the castle itself.
