Chapter One Hundred Twenty-One: Legend The Wisteria Family, like the Lillitur Family, was one of the three great
They were a clan that had produced formal Wizards generation after generation, one that could mobilize several formal Wizard combatants at any time — utterly incomparable to the declining clan behind Biji.
And with the Wisteria Family's protection, Biji's clan had no choice but to grit their teeth and accept their loss. The
"As for Biji, she was captured by the experts from her own family. I hear she'll be put on trial for betrayal very soon…"
Hong's eyes turned red in an instant, tears nearly spilling down.
"Phew!!!" Leilin let out a long breath.
He had known about Biji's secret crush on
When Biji told him that Feile had agreed to be her boyfriend, Leilin had sensed that something was off, but there was no way for him to warn her.
Now it was clear — Feile's deliberate attempts to get close to her before, and his calculated protection during the secret realm blood battle, had all been a meticulously planned scheme. The entire goal was to manipulate Biji into stealing her family's Rainbow Potion!!!
Feile had undoubtedly earned enough contribution points during the secret realm blood battle to redeem Green's Water, and combined with the Rainbow Potion, he stood a very good chance of advancing to formal Wizard!
As for Biji's clan, they had effectively and permanently lost a Wizard — and to make matters worse, they had also lost Biji as an apprentice.
"Not a bad scheme! Too bad it's beneath contempt. Next time we meet, I'll just kill him!"
Leilin thought calmly.
Biji was a good friend of his, and they had shared a night together — he definitely had to rescue her. And when the time came, he would help her get revenge.
However, in Leilin's heart, there was no sense of shame from being betrayed.
If he examined the reason more closely — Biji had been Feile's girlfriend both in name and in practice. Strictly speaking, it was Leilin who had poached Feile's girlfriend and cuckolded him, so naturally there was no feeling of humiliation.
But right now, the most critical thing was to rescue Biji.
If it came to a rescue, Mentor Guofate would have been an excellent choice, but Leilin had immediately ruled him out.
The teacher-student relationship at Black Bone Forest Academy was somewhat akin to a transaction of interests. The apprentices paid Magic Stones and services, and the mentors offered knowledge in return.
For gifted apprentices like Jiamen and Teresa who received dedicated cultivation from their mentors, things were different. But for an apprentice of average talent like Biji, the relationship with her mentor would be even more distant.
Almost as soon as Biji graduated, the bond between them would fade entirely—unless Biji advanced to become a full-fledged Wizard.
Moreover, Guofate was a mentor at Black Bone Forest Academy, and upon entering the institution, he had signed a contract. He was not permitted to interfere in the internal affairs of the various families within the Academy.
And the family backing Biji was precisely one of the many families under the Academy's umbrella.
Therefore, constrained by his contract, Guofate could not take action either.
Leilin picked up the flower tea from the round table, now lukewarm, and took a sip. Then, under Hong's expectant gaze, he spoke slowly: "I have an important experiment that I cannot step away from, but I will write a personal letter. Please deliver it to the patriarch of Biji's family…"
The bloodline purification experiment was entering its most critical phase.
If Hong hadn't sent word that Biji's life hung in the balance, Leilin might not have made time at all.
But he also couldn't stay away from the laboratory for too long.
Compared to Biji, the pressure Leilin faced was actually far greater. He had to advance to the rank of Warlock in the shortest time possible so he could better deal with the threat from the Liliter family.
Furthermore, the Liliter family could discover his trail at any moment, and with each passing day, that possibility grew. He had to purify his bloodline before they caught on, find a safe location outside the Academy, and complete the most crucial advancement!
This matter directly concerned his very survival! Compared to that, Biji's situation could be set aside for now.
Leilin asked himself—he was, after all, a genius apprentice at the Academy with considerable prospects of becoming a full Wizard.
And the patriarch of Biji's family was merely a Third-rank Apprentice. In the world of Wizards, equal strength was the prerequisite for meaningful exchange! Therefore, the other party would certainly heed what Leilin had to say.
Upon hearing Leilin's words, Hong's eyes dimmed instantly, her body stiffened, and she nearly rose from her seat.
It seemed she thought Leilin was just trying to brush her off with empty promises.
In truth, this was what a normal apprentice would do. Hong had already prepared herself for it, but she still felt a pang of frustration.
"In the letter, I will earnestly request that Biji's family refrain from holding a trial for the time being, and preserve her spiritual essence—ensuring no harm comes to her."
A spiritual essence was the most fundamental consciousness sea of a Wizard and the Spiritual Power within it — the very foundation of a Wizard.
Once the spiritual essence was destroyed, the Wizard was utterly ruined. This was often the method used by certain families to deal with traitors.
"And in return! I promise to provide compensation for the Rainbow Potion in the future!" Leilin's final sentence made Hong's eyes light up in an instant.
"Thank you! Thank you so much..." Hong was so excited she could barely form coherent words.
If he had merely pleaded on Biji's behalf, they were all Second-rank Apprentices, and she came from a Wizard family — she might not have thought much of Leilin or granted him the favor.
But promising compensation was something else entirely.
After all, even if Biji were killed now, it would bring no benefit to the family. But if she were imprisoned for a time, there would still be hope of receiving compensation later!
Any rational Wizard would know which choice to make.
"Biji and I study under the same mentor. This is something I should do!"
Leilin rose with a smile.
Once he finished his experiments, he would immediately attempt his advancement. The moment he became a full Wizard, his standing and voice would be entirely different.
At that point, trying to rescue Biji would also be far more convenient and straightforward.
To be honest, the price of a single Rainbow Potion was something Leilin could easily afford with his current wealth. Not to mention the earnings from selling potions — even the few rare plants he had casually picked up in the Dylan Garden were each worth several times the price of a Rainbow Potion.
But paying up to ransom someone now would very likely get him marked as a fool with deep pockets. Leilin did not consider himself quite so noble-hearted.
Under the guidance of reason and self-interest, he instinctively chose the path of least cost.
"I've reached out to many people, but you're the only one!! Leilin, Biji will be grateful to have a friend like you!" It seemed Hong and Biji were on very good terms.
"If there is nothing else, please excuse me for taking my leave!"
Leilin smiled and offered a gentleman's bow, then elegantly departed from his seat.
The matter of Biji was nothing more than a small mishap for Leilin. After briefly handling a few things, he threw himself completely back into the laboratory once more.
Three days later, Leilin gazed at a sulfonation crystal test tube in his hand with an expression of deep fascination.
Inside the test tube, a mass of deep crimson liquid occupied less than half the volume, gently boiling as tiny bubbles constantly rose to the surface, as though it possessed a life of its own.
"The blood essence of an entire Horar Black Serpent, combined with its unique blood-producing organ — the heart — as a catalyst, subjected to continuous separation and purification under the combined power of the Chip's microscope and spellcraft, and at last, this half-tube of ancient bloodline was obtained!"
A look of entranced wonder shone in Leilin's eyes as he murmured softly to himself.
Merely holding the test tube in his hand, Leilin could feel a tremendous force continuously emanating from within, radiating outward in all directions.
"As expected of the bloodline of an ancient creature — the Comoin Giant Serpent!"
Leilin directed a query to the Chip: "How is the compilation of data on the Comoin Giant Serpent progressing?"
These powerful creatures of the ancient era were mentioned only in a handful of wizard texts and epic poems nowadays, riddled with errors and omissions. What Leilin needed was for the Chip to sift through the recorded materials and extract the truth about the Comoin Giant Serpent.
After all, this was his only option!
As for other serpent bloodlines? They were not so easily obtained. Any creature possessing even a trace of ancient bloodline commanded a terrifying price in the wizarding world. Moreover, Leilin was not yet a formal Wizard, and many channels were closed to him.
"Ding! After 3,465 cross-references, with 139 pieces of false information and 45 duplicates eliminated, the basic data has been compiled." The Chip reported faithfully.
"Comoin Giant Serpent: An ancient creature that reaches a total length of over five kilometers upon maturity. Possesses an incredibly powerful physical body and mysterious spellcasting abilities. A mature specimen can contend against a Fourth-rank Wizard and is the destroyer of legend in many cities. Primary attribute: Darkness, with secondary Fire! According to mythology, after the Mother of All Serpents failed in her bid for control of the Shadow World, she led her descendants to settle in the Purgatory World, and from that point onward, her offspring carried the attribute of fire."
"Data sources: Ancient Creature Compendium, Grey's Travels, Crimson Notes, The Book of Great Serpents…"
"Attributes: Darkness and Fire?" A look of wild elation surfaced on Leilin's face.
Although after a bloodline transplant, a warlock's body would automatically gain the attributes of the ancient creature's bloodline, a natural alignment of attributes was always far preferable.
Because even after changing bloodlines, a Wizard's innate aptitude remained critically important — it was determined at birth and nearly impossible to alter afterward.
"Chip, display my attribute aptitude chart!"
A bar chart was instantly projected before Leilin's eyes.
The longest was a dark black bar, representing Leilin's primary affinity attribute: Darkness.
Next was a crimson-red bar nearly half the length of the Darkness bar — Leilin's secondary affinity attribute: Fire.
At the end were several green and other-colored bars, representing his aptitudes in plant-related and various other domains.
These bars, however, were a good ten times shorter than the one for Fire. If Leilin had chosen energy particles from those other systems as his primary focus, he probably wouldn't have even reached Second-rank Apprentice by now.
In other words, Leilin's greatest aptitude lay in the Darkness system, with Fire coming a distant second, while all the other attributes could be safely ignored.
"The Komoin Giant Serpent's attributes are a perfect match for my aptitudes. According to the descriptions in the Eye of Komoin, in cases like this, it can even provide a bonus to a Wizard's affinity attributes. This is the best choice!"
A look of unconcealed delight spread across Leilin's face.
