Chapter Seventy: One Against Five

February 22, 2014 · 3 min read · 668 words

Meng Wuya spoke with a wistful sigh, his words seemingly drawn from deep feeling, and Xia Ningshang could easily hear the sorrow in his voice.

Could it be that her master had experienced something like this? She was about to ask, but Meng Wuya had already vanished.

At the same time, at the Black Wind Market, outside the wooden hut where Lingxiao Pavilion's guarding disciples were stationed, a sweating young man rushed over. He stopped at the door and knocked softly, steadied his breathing, and called out in a low voice, "Senior Sister Su."

"What is it?" A cool, detached voice came from inside—pleasant to the ear, yet carrying a frigid quality that kept everyone at arm's length.

The young man's sweat nearly froze into ice. He shuddered violently before speaking. "Young Master Su Mu was knocked unconscious, and his men have all been taken into custody by the Law Enforcement Hall. They've been thrown into the Forest Prison."

The words had barely left his mouth when the door of the hut swung open, and Su Yan, clad entirely in white, appeared before him.

The young man immediately took two steps back and lowered his head, not daring to look directly at Su Yan's flawless, breathtaking face.

"Explain clearly. What happened?" Su Yan asked evenly, but the entire hut radiated a bone-piercing chill that was visible to the naked eye. From the ground came crackling sounds—the unmistakable noise of ice forming.

The young man hurriedly recounted the whole affair as concisely as he could. When he finished, he waited for a long while, but there was no response from the other side. He couldn't help calling out softly, "Senior Sister Su?"

Still no reaction. Mustering his courage, he sneakily raised his head—Su Yan was nowhere to be seen. She had slipped away at some unknown moment.

"Oh my god!" The Lingxiao Pavilion disciple nearly collapsed, his legs giving out as he plopped down onto the ground.

That Senior Sister Su was too cold! Whoever married her in the future would probably need to huddle under a quilt even in the height of summer. But someone as pure, noble, and glacial as Senior Sister Su—there probably wasn't a man in this world worthy of her.

No one had expected that a simple clash between junior disciples of Lingxiao Pavilion would stir up such a storm, sending everyone scrambling into action.

Inside the Forest Prison of Lingxiao Pavilion, Yang Kai and Li Yuntian were still locked up. More than an hour had passed since their capture, and there was still no sign of anything happening outside.

Li Yuntian and the others were growing anxious, wondering why Su Mu hadn't made a move yet. But then they reconsidered—Su Mu had been knocked unconscious at the time. Who knew if he had woken up? If he hadn't, there was no way he could come to their rescue.

Just as they were worrying, the main door of the Forest Prison suddenly swung open. Accompanied by the sound of footsteps, a Law Enforcement Hall disciple approached the cell where Yang Kai and the others were being held. He unlocked the door and called out, "Who is Yang Kai?"

Yang Kai answered in a deep voice, "I am."

"Come with me!" the Law Enforcement Hall disciple ordered bluntly. "Someone wants to see you."

Yang Kai's expression darkened. He let out a cold laugh but showed no fear, stepping forward and walking out.

"Senior Brother Yang, don't go! Wait for Young Master Su to rescue us!" Li Yuntian was alarmed and grabbed hold of Yang Kai.

"Let go!" the Law Enforcement Hall disciple barked angrily. "Anyone who interferes is an enemy of the Law Enforcement Hall. You know full well what the consequences will be."

Yang Kai turned to Li Yuntian and said, "I'll go take a look. Don't worry."

Li Yuntian reluctantly released his grip and said in a grave tone, "Senior Brother Yang, be careful!"

"Hmph!" The Law Enforcement Hall disciple sneered. "Overestimating yourself."
