Hmm.
Let's set Skill Points aside for now.
Honestly, there's no point in using them if they don't increase, and worrying about it won't help.
Now then, compared to Appraisal, Acid Resistance has completely different acquisition conditions.
Acid Resistance, true to its name, would raise your defense against acid-based attacks, right?
I acquired it when I was hit by that damned frog's saliva attack.
That saliva probably had both an acid attribute and a poison attribute.
I took that attack, took damage from the acid, and that's why I was able to acquire the new Skill.
Whether it's from taking damage specifically, or from being hit by that attribute in general, I can't quite tell.
As for that thing called Proficiency, I'm not sure whether it went up based on the amount of damage taken, or from continuously receiving that type of attack over time. That part's unclear to me.
But the important takeaway here is this: when you receive an attack of a certain attribute, you can gain resistance to that attribute.
It hurts like hell the first time, but if you tough it out, you gain resistance.
For example, if I were hit by a fire attack, wouldn't I gain Fire Resistance?
Thinking about it from a defensive standpoint, having resistances is always a good thing.
Should I deliberately take hits from new attacks from now on, as long as I'm not about to die?
Hmm, well, no. I hate pain, and there's no guarantee I'd even gain the resistance. No need to cross a dangerous bridge for no reason.
And it's not *just* because I hate pain, mind you.
After getting hit by the frog's attack, I acquired Acid Resistance, and my Poison Resistance level went up.
So, if that Voice of Heaven (provisional) is right, then Poison Resistance was a Skill I had from the very beginning.
Well, I'm a spider, I use poison, so it wouldn't be strange to have Poison Resistance.
It wouldn't be strange, but how messed up is it that I don't even know what Skills I have?
If the Voice of Heaven (provisional) hadn't told me, I never would've noticed I had Poison Resistance.
Which means—couldn't I have other Skills I'm not aware of?
It wouldn't be surprising at all, really.
Something like Poison Attack, maybe?
It'd be nice if I could check, but there's no way to do that.
I tried shouting "Status" or something in my head, but there was no response at all.
Maybe if I raise Appraisal's level, I'll be able to see them?
Appraisal's... level?
Proficiency?
Wait a second—couldn't I actually level this thing up?
Proficiency basically means the degree to which you've honed something through repeated use, right?
If Appraisal works like the resistance Skills—leveling up through Proficiency—then wouldn't using it over and over raise its level?
I'd just assumed that since I acquired it with Skill Points, I could only level it up with Skill Points too. But maybe that's not the case?
Time to Appraise everything in sight.
Information about "wall," "floor," and other useless details floods into my brain.
Ugh, I feel kind of sick.
Information overload made me dizzy.
《Proficiency has reached a certain threshold. Skill "Appraisal LV1" has become "Appraisal LV2"》 The dizziness was worth it!
Ha ha!
It's only one level, but it feels like a huge step forward!
With a little thrill of excitement, I Appraise myself.
《Small Lesser Taratect. Name: None》 Oh!
It actually shows what seems to be a species name!
The amount of information is still sparse, but compared to "Spider" at LV1, it feels like a significant improvement.
Wait though—Small *and* Lesser?
That's... kind of an inferior species vibe.
Yep. My excitement from leveling up Appraisal just took a nosedive.
It's not like I had high expectations, but I didn't exactly expect to be called an inferior species either.
Oh well. My previous life was pretty much the same, so no point dwelling on it.
What matters is that I need to keep Appraising like crazy and level this thing up!
...It won't go up.
I've been Appraising the wall nonstop since then, and the level hasn't budged.
Incidentally, the Appraisal result for the wall was "Labyrinth Wall."
What a boring result.
Anyway, that doesn't matter—why won't the level go up?
Hmm.
The most likely explanation is that once you've Appraised something, Appraising it again doesn't increase your Proficiency.
That makes sense. Otherwise, you could just grind Proficiency way too easily.
Just to be sure, I've Appraised every corner of My Home.
But the level still won't rise.
My Proficiency isn't high enough yet.
So to raise Appraisal's level, I'd have to leave My Home and Appraise things outside.
Now that I think about it, at LV1, I Appraised that massive horde of monsters.
That probably gave me a ton of Proficiency back then.
But going outside...
What a pain.
I finally have a safe, comfortable My Home, and now I have to go out there voluntarily?
If I want to live safely, I should just stay home.
If I want to level up, I have to go outside.
Both have their pros and cons, but the danger of the outside world is a pretty big con.
Yep.
Decision made.
I'm going to enjoy my lazy lifestyle here a little while longer.
A little slacking never hurt anyone, right?
