Chapter 102: Wisdom Is Awesome

April 30, 2016 · 5 min read · 979 words

So, the Skill "Wisdom" seems to function like a slightly enhanced combination of "Appraisal" and "Detection."

At this point, I've definitively confirmed that it's the kind of ability that demands the "-sama" honorific.

Wisdom-sama, indeed.

First, the enhancements. The Appraisal result for Status now includes detailed breakdowns.

If you Appraise this detail with a second layer of Appraisal, even more granular information about that status opens up. What a wonderful feature.

Attack and Defense each display precise numerical values for every body part.

According to this, my highest attack power is in the scythe blade, while my defense is roughly uniform across the board.

My torso's defense is slightly lower than average, but since I'm built for evasion anyway, as long as I don't screw up and get hit there, it's fine.

Speed works similarly, with further breakdowns into reaction speed, burst speed, endurance speed, and so on.

It's fairly average overall, but burst speed seems a bit higher than the others.

Now, magic.

Oh boy. This one.

There are all sorts of categories—magic attack power, incantation deployment speed, incantation stability, incantation durability, and more—but every value except attack power was maxed out.

99999, apparently.

That's not average at all!

But setting aside that little objection, this is likely thanks to the "Pinnacle of Sorcery" Skill.

The description said something about magic-related values being capped at maximum, so that must be what's affecting this.

This is practically telling me to use magic, isn't it?

Hehehe.

At long last, at long last, I can use magic too!

Oh crap.

I'm so excited.

But for now, I need to verify the effects of Wisdom-sama first. No rushing ahead.

Last but not least—and this was the most important detail of all—was Resistance.

All my elemental resistances were listed.

Now I know my weaknesses.

My worst weakness is, as expected, fire.

Even with the Fire Resistance Skill, it's still my lowest.

Oh, by the way, having a resistance-type Skill seems to increase the corresponding resistance value.

Other elements I'm weak against include water, ice, and light—those are all on the lower side.

Ice in particular is as low as fire. As long as I stay in the Middle Layer, I probably won't run into ice-element attacks, but I should keep that in the back of my mind.

On the flip side, my highest resistance is Heterodox.

Well, I do have Heterodox Nullification, after all.

That one's also maxed out at 99999.

Next highest is Poison Resistance.

And after that, surprisingly, Darkness.

It's higher than some resistances I actually have Skills for.

So that's how I've figured out my strengths and weaknesses in resistances, and I suspect the same probably applies to offense too.

For instance, if I used fire-element magic—which is my weakest—it would probably be less effective.

Conversely, elements I'm strong in like Heterodox or Darkness would likely be boosted.

It's still speculation, but I'm fairly confident.

So that covers the Status details, but I can now also see Skill details.

Specifically, I can see Proficiency values.

The Proficiency needed for the next Level is displayed alongside it, so I should be able to grind levels more efficiently.

By the way, I can also see the Proficiency of Skills I haven't acquired yet.

Believe it or not, even without enough Skill Points, the full Skill list is displayed.

That surprised me.

And what's more, all Skills are shown in an unlocked state.

Just browsing through them could eat up an entire day.

Some Skills have absurdly high point costs—you'd think they'd never want anyone to actually take them.

The performance is solid, sure, but you'd never be able to afford them.

Speaking of which, I was half-joking before about the "Voice of Heaven (tentative)"—maybe I should stop calling it that.

Nah, I'll stick with Voice of Heaven (tentative).

Oh right, where was I—ah yes, following up on that.

I casually asked the Voice of Heaven (tentative) as a joke, and it turns out the "Immortality" Skill that actually exists requires 100 million points.

No way.

They obviously don't want anyone to take that one.

Well, setting aside the impossible ones, I'll go through the Skills within reach and pick out useful ones I could grab later.

I'll be dumping points into Evil Eye for a while, but once that's done and I have some to spare, I'll pick up some good Skills.

Now then, as for the enhancement to Detection—I can now Appraisal information gathered through Detection.

That said, Detection already gathers pretty high-precision data on its own, so there's rarely a need to Appraise it separately.

I can't think of many practical uses for it at the moment, but there's no harm in having it, and it might come in handy someday.

And lastly—the most important thing of all: an auto-mapping function has been added!

Yay!

And what's more, this map covers every area I've traversed from the moment I was born all the way up to now, before I even obtained Wisdom!

This is incredible.

Seriously incredible.

The Great Ello Dungeon, which I'd been wandering through aimlessly—its layout is finally being revealed by this map!

The Great Ello Dungeon is massive…

I've got the map of the Upper Layer where I originally was, the map of the Lower Layer where I fell down to, and the map of the Middle Layer I'm currently exploring.

Linking them together and estimating the overall picture, it's already roughly the size of Hokkaido.

And that's just a portion!

On top of that, estimating the distance from the Middle Layer to the Upper Layer tells me the journey ahead is still going to be long.

It's only an estimate, so there might be the occasional vertical shaft or shortcut, but I should probably prepare myself for a lengthy voyage.

Lastly, Appraisal of the language I'd been unable to appraise before was, as expected, still unappraisable.
