Primula

Primula Rosemary is the younger of the twin daughters of the marquisate of House Rosemary, a line of hereditary mages. Her father, Albert, heads the court mages, and her elder sister Viola is golden-haired, strong-willed, and gifted in magic. Primula, by contrast, is quiet and timid: from childhood she kept to her sister's shadow and carried a deep inferiority complex, convinced that beside Viola she was fated to always come second. She is lovely in her own right, with silver hair worn to the waist and a delicate, serene beauty the novel likens to a lily, while her sister evokes a rose.

She first meets Rest in the forest near the Eberun estate. Cedric of House Eberun dragged the sisters along on a hunt to show off and carelessly wounded a White Fenrir cub, whose enraged parent attacked the group. As the beast was about to devour the sisters, Rest intervened: he flung the Fenril aside, healed both it and the injured cub, and let them go in peace. The cruel, leering Cedric had only repelled Primula, but Rest, gentle and calm and treating her without any ulterior motive, proved to be her ideal, and for the first time she truly fell in love.

The sisters nurse Rest after a trial staged by their house and arrange for him to live with them and prepare for the Aiwood academy entrance exams. Primula realizes that Viola loves Rest too, yet for the first time she refuses to step aside for her sister, while also being unwilling to hurt or oppose her. Her answer is to become a second wife and share the man she loves with her sister. The arrangement is sealed by their mother at a Rosemary family council: both twins will marry Rest, who is to become the house's son-in-law and heir.
